DigitalICE

Digital Ice

The first nagatives that I am scanning have been relatively well protected. At a relatively early point in time they were placed in paper negative pages. They have almost no fingerprints on them. When you look at them closely, they seem relatively dust free. But under a strong light (and even moreso, when scanned) the number of dust spots is absolutely astonishing.

Fortunately, Digital ICE comes to the rescue. This technique uses infrared detection to identify and remove the presence of dust spots.

Unless negatives have been kept in a 'clean room' without dust, it is likely that you should use Digital ICE.

Digital ICE will also hide the types of scratches that are often seen on negatives as a result of bits of dust being caught in the processing machinery when the negatives were first developed and printed.
